Thomas Ruf
Thomas Ruf was born in Munich. Only after completing a degree in Business Administration in Munich did he study solo singing for opera and concert at the Salzburg Mozarteum. A subsequent guest study took him to the Lied class with Hartmut Höll and Mitsuko Shirai in Karlsruhe. He also received significant artistic impulses from Anna Reynolds and Jean Cox. Furthermore, he participated in numerous masterclasses, including those with Sesto Bruscantini, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Thomas Hampson, Robert Holl, and Thomas Quasthoff.
A first opera engagement took him to the Augsburg City Theater with small character roles in Shostakovich's opera "The Nose." In the operatic field, he went on to perform the title roles of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" (at the "Forum Meyrin" theater in Geneva) and Telemann's "Pimpinone" (at the "Spirigarten" theater in Zurich and the "Kleinen Theater" Salzburg).
Other opera roles include: Kaspar in Egk's "The Magic Violin" at the free state theater of Bavaria, as well as Escamillo in "Carmen," Falke in "Die Fledermaus," Kaspar in "Der Freischütz," Orsini in "Rienzi," Marcello in "La Bohème," Papageno in "The Magic Flute" in various free productions in Bavaria. In 2007, he made another appearance in a production of "Don Giovanni," this time in the role of the servant Leporello.
His extensive oratorio repertoire, with works ranging from the Renaissance to the 20th century, and his diverse song repertoire featuring almost all famous cycles, allowed him to perform concerts with esteemed artists (including Hartmut Höll, Helmuth Rilling, Peter Härtling) and led to appearances (in addition to Germany) in Austria, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Norway, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Russia, as well as Japan and the USA.
He has been invited to various international festivals: including Rheingau Music Festival, EXPO Hannover, Lake Constance Festival, Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad, Orff in Andechs, International Music Summer Bad Schallerbach, Cultural Days Salzburg, Festivo Aschau, Tartini Festival Piran, Baroque Festival Varazdin, Summer Concerts Langenargen, Schubertde Vilabertran, and Paper de musica in Capellades (both in Catalonia)
