Kepler clock

Grieskirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
  • Suitable for groups

The Kepler Clock, located at the Grieskirchen School Center, is probably the largest vertical, plane sundial in Austria, if not in Europe, at 240 m². On a guided tour you will learn more about the historical background, the history of its creation and how to read it. The clock pays tribute to the mathematician, theologian, astronomer Johannes Kepler. He was a Protestant and served three Catholic emperors as a court mathematician. During the turbulent time of the Reformation/Counter-Reformation he had to change his residence several times. His life shows many references to the area of Grieskirchen and Upper Austria.

The Kepler Clock can only be reached on foot. There are parking spaces about 200 m away.

The Kepler Clock can be visited by the public at all times all year round.
Guided tours are available by appointment.
