Tango Ador
The Koehne Quartet, consisting of Joanna Lewis (Violin), Anne Harvey-Nagl (Violin), Lena Fankhauser (Viola), and Melissa Coleman (Cello), expands to a quintet with Ciro Vigilante on double bass. On piano, Karl Eichinger – all have earned an international reputation in cross-genre interpretations. Tango Ador, a composition by Melissa Coleman, is the namesake of the program featuring works by George Gershwin, Melissa Coleman, and Philip Glass.
The New York magazine Fanfare characterized Karl Eichinger as "… who may just be the latest incarnation of Gershwin’s 'to-go' interpreter" and thus, George Gershwin's Piano Concerto "Concerto in F" is at the center of the program in an arrangement for piano and string quintet, making the chamber music facets of this work particularly shine. With Philip Glass' String Quartet No. 5, the Koehne Quartet can showcase its mastery in engaging with music of the 20th century, while in "Tango Ador" stylistic certainty and improvisational art come together.
