The means of the mixed brass ensemble Federspiel have blossomed after more than two decades: “We and Now” sets to music the big questions of our time. However, it also promises to pause time with music at the moment of the concert and to establish a connection with the audience that touches everyone and, ideally, transforms them.

We and Now
We. We starts with two. A family, a band. A nation and the whole planet. For the musicians of Federspiel, we is more than a simple count. We encompasses the knowledge and ideas of all generations before us. We here and now are just the youngest in an infinite series of annual rings, each of which knows its own story.
And this brings us to the Now. For the seven musicians, this means the right use, the right timing, and the magic of the moment of every performance. Because this narrow strip between past and future is the only space we have left. Us as artists, as humans, as humanity. Only in the Now are we. Only in the Now can we act, move things and people.
These ideas have inspired Federspiel to create their new program: We and Now sets to music the big questions of our time. It is a call to address the pressing problems of our planet together and right now. We and Now also promises to pause time with music at the moment of the concert and to establish a connection with the audience that touches everyone and ideally transforms.
The means of the mixed brass ensemble have blossomed after more than two decades: inclusion instead of demonstration, light-footed virtuosity instead of ostentatious acrobatics. A renunciation of market-screaming demeanor, instead thought-provoking and touching compositions. This is what characterizes Federspiel. And that is precisely We and Now.

Feel free to call it a brass band! But what the gentlemen of Federspiel bring to the stage defies most expectations that the word carries. Nevertheless, they are, feel free to say it: a brass band. But one of exceptional quality, which, as elegantly as few others, unites the new and the traditional, the played and the sung, the lightness and depth in their performance.
As an artistic heavyweight with feather-light compositions in tow, Federspiel has long been performing on major concert stages worldwide. Their performances have taken them from Scandinavia to Egypt and from the USA back to the beautiful Wachau, where the ensemble was founded in 2004.
In hundreds of concerts – from the noble Philharmonic Hall to the rustic inn hall – Federspiel developed its own musical language in the tension field between tradition and modernity and established itself as one of the most innovative sound bodies in the European brass music scene.
Pioneering in spirit yet always full of respect, the ensemble weaves echoes from the Nordic music tradition with Alpine repertoire, percussive playing styles with electronic sounds, to create something new – contemporary music that bows reverently to its past while boldly designing its future.
