Lungau Big Band
Rich in variety and with great music, the Lungau Big Band is entering its forty-third year! It is extremely rare for a jazz orchestra to exist over such a long period while consistently presenting interesting programs, featuring renowned soloists from around the world, and inviting composers to write new music.
Thus, the Lungau Big Band has developed into one of the most active and remarkable jazz ensembles in the country, and with alternating programmatic focuses, it not only delights the audience but also keeps itself engaged with a wide range of musical challenges in an infectious playing mood!
The list of previous guests and all the associated wonderful memories is long. A few names include: Hubert von Goisern, Nils Landgren, Josh ‘Socalled’ Dolgin, Randy Brecker, Gunhild Carling, Bobby Shew, Angela Tröndle, James Morrison, Jiggs Whigham, Tony Momrelle, Bob Mintzer, Michael Abene ….

Simone Kopmajer
She possesses soul and a very special, charismatic sound in her voice, which gives every song a certain something. Born in Schladming, Austria, Simone Kopmajer has achieved at a young age what many musicians, bands, and ensembles dream of: the start of a successful international career. In the United States, Japan, and Southeast Asia, the singer is a name recognized by lovers of sophisticated and refined jazz music.
Her enthusiasm and love for music were ignited at a very young age. She began singing at eight, sang in her father's band, who was a music school director and a great jazz fan, at twelve, and was admitted to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz at sixteen, where she was immediately accepted due to her extraordinary talent. During her studies, she had the opportunity to collaborate with many renowned artists like Mark Murphy, Sheila Jordan, Michele Hendricks, Jay Clayton, and the New York Voices.
In 2000, she made her debut in the USA and left a lasting impression on numerous experts and connoisseurs of contemporary jazz music. Simone Kopmajer’s role models were the great voices of jazz and American show business like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Jon Hendricks, but over time, the Styrian distanced herself more and more from these influences to find her own musical language.
With her charisma and incredible talent, Simone Kopmajer manages to give her songs a very special emotional, charming, and profound note that deeply touches people. Her sound lies somewhere between jazz, swing, and tasteful pop. Although her music is very relaxed, flowing, and elegant, it is also very playful and varied – these complex facets distinguished her from similar formats early on and made her music all the more interesting.
